Thursday, 29th April – Business Ireland Kenya hosted a highly informative webinar themed: Key updates and focus on the logistics industry. The engaging session featured an excellent panel of speakers including Mr. Gilbert Langat – CEO at the Shippers Council of Eastern Africa and Mr. Eddie Burke – EU and Central Policy Division at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sports (DTTAS – Ireland).

BIK was also honored to host Ambassador. Michael Mubea, EBS at the meeting. His remarks noted that Kenya and Ireland had a good relationship and he encouraged enhanced opportunities for trade and investment between the two countries. Mr. Declan Galvan, Head of 3i at WS Insight gave an overview of key terrorism and crime trends with additional information on a mid-year risk assessment for businesses operating in the country.

The theme provided an opportunity for participants to gain insight into key developments in the logistics sector from the perspective of both Kenya and Ireland. Mr. Burke’s presentation highlighted notable statistics on trade patterns for 2021 influenced by the impact of Brexit on trade flows and shed light on the factors driving change in the industry including customs barriers, responsive business models and the UK Landbridge. Mr. Langat walked participants through the role of the Shippers Council as the voice of cargo owners in Eastern Africa showcasing key multisectoral, responsive initiatives implemented to move the industry forward in the face of challenges faced.

The session concluded with a Q&A section that enabled members to seek clarification and share their comments for the benefit of all in attendance.
