BIK Hosts Themed Virtual Meetings and a Networking Social Event – Sep 2020

On Tuesday, 1st September Business Ireland Kenya partnered with Corporate member Invest Northern Ireland to host the first webinar of the month. The ‘Spotlight on Cybersecurity’ webinar included a panel of speakers from PWC Kenya, Salt DNA, Global Forensic Services Limited and Kenya Cybersecurity and Forensics Association.

The session created an opportunity for all in attendance to gain insight into the incredibly timely theme with key focus on Northern Ireland’s cybersecurity capabilities as well as the latest trends from Kenyan and Northern Irish cybersecurity specialists. Speakers from the event included Mr. Darren Gillen – Chair at Business Ireland Kenya, Ms. Natasha Donmez – Regional Director, Sub Saharan Africa at Invest NI, Mr. Silvanus Sewe – Director at Global Forensic Services Limited / Chair Security Sector Board KEPSA and Mr. Mark McCann – Digital ICT Sector Executive at Invest NI.

The session also included an engaging panel discussion moderated by Mr. Benjamin Mkwizu – Risk Assurance Associate Director at PwC Kenya with insights from John Bailie – Head of Business Development and Marketing at SaltDNA and Mr. Keniz Agira – Chair at the Kenya Cyber Security & Forensics Association (KCSFA).

On Thursday, 17th September BIK hosted a virtual networking social event. The session provided members an opportunity to connect and interact with each other, this enabled members to share insight on the effects of COVID – 19 on their business as well as some of the initiatives they were implementing to mitigate the impact of the pandemic. Business Ireland Kenya hopes to continue these sessions in 2021 with an aim to provide a platform for the creation of partnerships in 2021 and beyond.

On Tuesday, 29th September Business Ireland Kenya partnered with the European Business Council to host Mr. Alexander Muteshi, Director-General at the Directorate of Immigration Services for a comprehensive and informative discussion themed ‘Immigration in Kenya – what you should know’.

The session allowed participants an in-depth look into procedure, changes to policy, and the opportunity to recive answers to their queries with an aim to have these resolved through partnership with the Directorate. Ahead of the session, BIK enlisted the assistance of corporate member – ABC Expat to identify key challenges collated from their interaction with multiple clients and asked each registrant to share their questions in order to address these with the Director-General.

The session was well attended with members sharing that the webinar was very helpful.
